Property Assessments
For questions on your property assessment, please contact the City Assessor, Kitt Koski of Bowmar Appraisals at 715-577-1875
To contest your property assessment, you must file an objection and attend the Board of Review. This board meets once a year, and this year the date has been tentatively set for October 16 at 5:00 p.m. As this date gets closer, additional details will be posted.
This year, the City of Washburn is required by the Department of Revenue to complete a revaluation of property assessments. Over the summer, the assessor will be driving by all properties and notices will be sent to all property owners with the new assessment. While the assessments are bound to rise, that does not necessarily mean that property taxes will increase. The City will not get additional revenue because of the revaluation. Property taxes for the City are only allowed to increase by the rate of the new construction each year which historically has usually been less than one percent. Some property tax payers may see a decrease, while others may see an increase because of the revaluation. The revaluation provides an updated comparison as to how your property is valued to other properties. Please see the letter from the property assessor below for more information.
