Playground Moms of Washburn is a group of moms with children of various ages and abilities that live near Jackie’s Field Park. During the spring of 2016, we got together to approach the idea of a more meaningful playground experience for our children at our local park. While the play structures at Jackie’s Field are functional, they are dated and provide little stimulation for the type of physical and creative play that we would like to see our children engaged in.

Jackie’s Field has served as a gathering place for children and the community in Washburn for over 40 years. The goal of Playground Moms is to raise funds through grants and donations for new playground equipment. The new equipment would be placed adjacent to and integrated with the original equipment as it now stands, while maintaining the quaint character of the park. The newly installed pieces would leave plenty of field space and would be inclusive, ADA compliant.

The equipment we have our eyes on is from Landscape Structures. These two pieces of equipment are of high quality and physically benefit "balance, coordination, motor planning, core body strength, and upper and lower body strength". There are also benefits of sensory, cognitive, and social/emotional development. Also, as funds allow, we would like to include a type of expression swing, where adult and child face each other while swinging. Engineered wood fiber and a border to keep wood fiber in will also be part of the plan. Our plan is to have this project completed before the end of October 2017.
